Pieces of New York

To work with Violeta Barca-Fontana is always a pleasure and working on the documentary “Pieces of New York”, our third collaboration was no exception to the rule, it was a bliss!

Violeta and I met in 2012, she was seeking the right music for her short film, “Entre Raíles”. She had a tight deadline, so instead of scoring the film, I showed her some pieces I had in my catalog. She then found something that was perfect to the visuals and I licensed my composition for her film, which was the jumpstart of our fruitful collaborations.

After that first one, she approached me with the material of her next short film, “Color Thief”. For this production, we had more time therefore I was able to go deeper and scored the film as it deserved to. It came out beautiful and made lots of waves on the film festival circuit.

After those two very successful endeavors, she started working on a documentary on arts and artists in New York. Luckily, she managed to find and bring back from Spain some footage of New York in the 70’s made by her grandfather. Having found this piece of the puzzle, she then put together the documentary showing New York through her grandfather’s eyes then and now her own, interviewing artists and visiting exciting places, cultural centers and so forth. I wrote its music and was also interviewed as an artist myself. “Pieces of New York” is definitely worth watching.

Looking forward to our next collaboration! Go violeta!!!
