When Zé Luis was only a good looking boy, he was already an excellent sax player, and he played in my band for years. That enabled me to accompany the essential part of his development as an instrumentalist. This was in the beginning of the ’80s. Now I am happy to hear his own sound, which has crossed over international boundaries and has deepened into its Brazilian roots. In this album, his own compositions and a declaration of love for Jobim’s music are the message of a muscian who already knows who he is and what he has to say. All of this is good news for me.
